Retail Leasing

Retailers have unique needs when leasing space.  Brand identity (trade dress) and store build-out, location within the shopping center and landlord maintenance obligations and co-tenancy are critical.  Jo Ann has a real passion for retail and has been a long time member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a regular attendee of ICSC’s annual Shopping Center Law Conference.

  • Represented Ritual Coffee Roasters in their Bay Area commercial leases since 2008.
  • Represented the Hirahara Family Limited Partnership in the lease of retail space to Target Corporation for a “Target Express” location in downtown Berkeley, California.
  • Represented Safeway/Albertson’s in the 2016 lease of surplus real estate to Big Lots, Inc. in Tacoma, WA.
  • Represented Contrabrand Coffee in the lease of their second San Francisco location in 2015.
  • Represented Invesco in the 2014 lease of ground floor retail space to Starbucks Corporation at Sunset Vine Tower, Los Angeles, California. 
  • Represented Invesco in the lease (and renewals) of retail space to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at Valencia Town Center, Valencia, California. 
  • Represented Invesco in the lease (and renewals) of retail space to Subway at Torrance Crossroads Shopping Center, Torrance, California.
  • Represented Jack London Square Associates, LLC (landlord) in the lease of the Lungomare restaurant at the Waterfront Hotel (Oakland) in 2012.
